Barossa Film Festival

A fun filled carnival of film, beer, food and wine where films will be screened free of charge in wine cellars, brewery lawns & lava lounges in the Barossa

A fun filled carnival of film, beer, food and wine celebrating independent, underground and genre films.

The Barossa Film Festival is a fun filled carnival of film, beer, food and wine where films will be screened free of charge in wine cellars, brewery lawns and lava lounges.

The Focus

The Barossa Film Festival celebrates innovative, exciting, groundbreaking films the put audience entertainment front and centre. The filmmakers we champion are:

Emerging filmmakers, in particular first and second time feature filmmakers
Independent and underground filmmakers working outside the system
“Genre” filmmakers working in entertainment focussed genres such as thriller, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, documentary, romance and comedy.
The event will be held annually during the last weekend in October. For 2013, these dates are Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26(with a after-party “wind down” on Sunday, Oct 27). Read more about the program.

The Cinemas Themselves

It’s carnival times folks! This is the Barossa, and here we like doing things differently. Instead of rows and rows of identical seats, the audience will be sprawled wherever, watching from beanbags, cushions, couches, on rugs on the lawn. Lean on a barrel, watch it from the bar, from a candlelit cabaret table, whatever takes your fancy. Want to sit in your own director’s chair? Sure. Bring one from home “Shakesphere in the park” style. (And get the filmmakers to sign it.) Eat, drink, yak as you watch, yell out at the screen… This is watching films with your mates. And that’s supposed to be fun.
